This fine piece of equipment tests capacitors, resistors, leakage of capacitors, power factor, measures against external standards, and last but not least its a vacuum tube volt meter, quite impressive for 1944.
This instrument is the traditional Wheatstone Bridge, used to measure resistance and capacitance. The single tube is a triode, type L63, in an octal socket.
Note: I had to replace the failed long running original tube with the nearest equivalent one. I believe it's about time to replace the capacitors (dated 1943). My decision is stalled for the moment, as I have another LCR Bridge (Marconi TF2700) that I use more often. I just might leave this one as a display unit.
